How does it handle overnight shifts?
If your clock-out time is earlier than your clock-in time, the calculator assumes the shift ran past midnight and counts through to the next day, instead of returning a negative number:

The second row crosses midnight and still comes out to a correct 8 hours. An empty clock-in or clock-out simply counts as zero, so a shift you have not filled in yet never breaks the total.
How is overtime calculated?
Every minute worked beyond 40 hours in a week counts as overtime, paid at 1.5 times your hourly rate. This is the United States federal standard, so if you worked 45 hours total, 40 are regular and 5 are overtime, each at their own rate. Enter a rate to see the split in dollars, or leave it out and just track the hours.
Does this include taxes or deductions?
No. Every figure here is gross pay, before tax, insurance, or anything your employer withholds. Payroll rules depend on your country, state, and situation in ways a browser calculator cannot know, so this tool sticks to the arithmetic it can get exactly right: hours in, minus break, times rate.
What can I use it for?

How do I calculate work hours from clock-in and clock-out times?
Enter your clock-in time, clock-out time, and any unpaid break for each shift, and the calculator subtracts the break from the time between the two to get hours worked. Add one row per shift or per day, and the tool adds every row together for your total across the week.
Does this calculator handle overnight shifts?
Yes. If your clock-out time is earlier than your clock-in time, the calculator assumes the shift crossed midnight and counts the hours through to the next day automatically. A shift from 10 PM to 6 AM correctly comes out to 8 hours, not a negative number.
How is overtime calculated?
Every minute worked beyond 40 hours in the total you enter counts as overtime and is paid at 1.5 times your hourly rate, the standard rule in the United States. If your total is 40 hours or under, every minute counts as regular time and no overtime applies.
Can I add more than one shift or day?
Yes. Start with five rows for a typical week and add as many more as you need, for a split shift on one day or a full seven-day week. Every row is summed into the same weekly total, hours, overtime, and pay together.

No, every number here is gross pay, before tax, insurance, or any other deduction. Payroll withholding depends on your country, state, filing status, and employer, none of which this calculator has any way to know, so it sticks to the math it can do correctly.
Is my data saved anywhere?
Only in your own browser's local storage, so your shifts and rate are still there next time you visit, with no account or signup. Nothing is uploaded to a server. Clearing your browser data, or clearing your entries here, removes it for good.
Can I download or copy my results?
Yes, both. Copy gives you a quick plain-text summary to paste into an email or invoice. Download saves the same summary as a text file you can keep or attach, with every shift, the weekly total, and pay if you entered a rate.
What if I forget to fill in a shift?
An empty clock-in or clock-out just counts as zero for that row, instead of throwing an error or blocking the rest of your total. Fill in only the shifts you actually worked, and leave the rest blank, nothing needs deleting.
Does the overtime rule apply to every country?
No. The 40-hour, time-and-a-half rule is the United States federal standard, and this calculator uses it as the default because it is the most common reference point. Countries and even states vary, so check your local labor law if you rely on this for pay owed to you.
